Ancillary Accommodation
A self contained " not so tiny house" for a local architects retirement, wishing to downsize , a peak district architect of many years standing, decided to relocate to his daughter and son in laws garden. Still wanting to retain their respective independence he sought and gained planning permission for a self contained building in the corner or their plot. It was a difficult site to get planning permission on as the house is listed building and next door is a historic mill building which is also listed.
The corner chosen is an excellent sun trap with views across the river, through the full width bifold doors at the end of the building. The river raised some interesting build challenges as the building had to be above any potential flood risk. This was overcome using a raised steel foundation.
The building is super insulated only needing very small electric radiators which so far have received very little use.
It is topped off with a green roof which can be seen from the bedrooms of the main house.
Prices for a similar build start from £80k.
